The Institute for Natural Church Development (NCD International) was founded in 1989 by Christian A. Schwarz. The goal was to help
churches of all denominations experience qualitative and quantitative growth.
In the 1990s, the Institute conducted an extensive research project on church growth that laid the foundation for the present
international ministry. More than 1,000 churches from 32 countries on 6 continents participated in the initial study. By mid-2007
more than 50,000 NCD Surveys have been conducted in over 70 countries. The average growth rate of all churches that have done three
or more surveys has increased by 51% between the first and third survey.
The Institute has built a network of NCD National Partners in about 70 countries. Through this network the practical tools of
NCD (eg books, the NCD Survey, coaching) are made available to churches around the globe. All of the Institute’s resources are
based on universally applicable principles, rather than featuring a specific church model.
