There has been a lot written about NCD since its launch internationally in 1996. Some of the material is helpful, some not. Some resources are current, while other resources are based on superseded understandings and are well out of date. Some resources are written by those not well versed in NCD concepts. Just the volume of material can be overwhelming.

We suggest you start in two places:

• Click here to download Natural Church Development: An Introduction for Churches. This is written particularly for Canadian church leaders who want to know how NCD can help them in practical ways to growth their church. It is free.

• Read the essential basic resources from Christian A. Schwarz himself, the author of the NCD paradigm. To see information about these resources, and to order them, go to the NCD Resources page.

Resist the urge to buy lots of other resources, NCD-based or otherwise. You will be able to determine what other resources you may need once you have the results from your NCD Survey.

Beginning the NCD Survey process

Once you have done the preliminary reading, the most effective route for learning and progress is to commence the NCD Survey process.

• Natural Church Development: An Introduction for Churches will step you through the process of getting the initial NCD Survey done in your church. It also explains some of the basic NCD concepts and tools but is not a substitute for reading the essential basic resources by Christian A. Schwarz recommended above.
